this reminds me of the sails that troll my compost pile in similar patterns.

...wow. You know, I never noticed until just now, looking at this picture again because someone on LJ made a comment about wanting a print of it, that this image is *all* lines-and-water. I didn't notice the black web-slash-lines before. ...Weird! Synchronicity is nifty.

Wow! This is amazing! I love snails and I've been planning a self portrait with snails for a while--this makes me scrap the whole thing! This is just... Wow. I love the designs you put everywhere, the dark patterns, and the texture on the snails' skins. The shadow snail is perfect.

Don't scrap it, do it, do it! Everyone who loves snails should do a self-portrait in one. :D

Thank you. :) I have this framed for when I move out. I feel kind of selfish putting a picture of myself on the wall buuuuuut... schmeh.

I can't wait for your dragon to arrive!

Simply beautiful. I can't explain how much I love this piece. I love the sticky black things at the bottom, the shades you've used, the detail in the snail, the way that you've got such a great likeness of yourself, and of course the red triangle things, which I read many different things into (but don't presume to know what they mean). Also, that snail on top of the other snail is so cute!

Wow, that looks amazing. I love the hair, the snails, and the way the patterns blend the two together. I really like the sticky black patterns too. And the colouring job is excellent. =)

Very nice! I love the blue hues you used, and how you incorporated the snails. What are those red things though? They almost remind me of skyscrapers. Though I'm probably waaaaaay off. lol

The red things are more personal symbolism, I guess. I don't really like explaining them, but they are a lot 'harsher' than the rest of the piece. :)

Another beautiful piece! I love the expressiveness and the way the hair flows around the face. However, for me personally, I think the red shapes pull the eye away from the subject. I think I understand what you were trying to accomplish with them though, but I think I'd have liked it better without. Just my opinion. :D

Thank you for your well-thought-out opinion. My eye has been moving along this picture in a different way to yours, but I definitely agree that it wouldn't take much for people to be drawn away from the face with those red things, instead of to it.

You're very welcome. Whenever I can, I like to offer my opinions, and obviously with art, they're totally subjective. :D

erm... it took around three / four days.
but all up, the hours together probably equal about 8-10 hours. i haven't been able to do too much art lately, so it's stretched out a lot. :)
